Recognize and Sharpen the Intelligence of the Child Since Early Age

Do you know that since the child is born up to the age of 3 years old, the brain cells of the child experience an increase of up to billions? However, the quality of the relationship between these brain cells are determined by the stimulations performed by parents or the environment of the child.

The relationship between brain cells will be stronger and more complex if the stimulations are varied, frequent, and regular. Then, the more complex and stronger the relationship between brain cells, the higher and more varied the intelligence of the child will be in the future. If parents conduct stimulations with a lot of variations, there is a high possibility for the child to have multiple intelligences.

Each individual has their own potential. Parents should be able to recognize and understand the intelligence potential of the child to be able to direct and develop it optimally. To ensure the potential of the child, parents can have their child take aptitude tests.

According to the research results of Dr. Howard Gardnes, an education and psychology expert from Harvard University, each child has at least eight types of intelligence. What and how are these intelligence types categorized? The explanations are as follows:

Musical intelligence

The ability to express themselves in music, create songs, understand and comprehend music, sing, and so on. Encourage the child to understand and respond to the various sounds that are often heard every day. Parents can also introduce clapping rhythms and observe whether the child can repeat it.

Kinesthetic intelligence

The ability to use dexterity and skills to solve problems and and creat a product. Parents can stimulate this by conducting various physical activities or assemble blocks to build an object.

Logical-mathematical intelligence

This type of intelligence involves the ability to analyze problems with logic, think systematically, investigate things scientifically, and perform arithmetics. Parents can stimulate their child by directing their attention to numbers or patterns around them. They can also play with colour beads to form simple patterns.

Visual-spatial intelligence

This type of intelligence involves the ability to observe something, think in images, imagine an end result, and think systematically. Stimulations can be performed by puzzle playing or drawing activities.

Linguistic intelligence

The ability to express themselves verbally, read, write, and communicate. Parents can encourage the child to play guessing games, such as identifying the characteristics of animals.

Interpersonal intelligence

The ability to work together with other individuals effectively, as well as empathize and understand others. Parents can help the child develop this intelligence by routinely discussing their feelings or the feelings of others. Parents can also read story books to them and discuss the characters in the book one by one.

Intrapersonal intelligence

The ability to analyze their own self and use their feelings to form a plan and objectives. The child requires assistance from the parents to identify their emotions and desires within themselves. Train their perseverance in completing tasks and responsibilities, for instance by raising pets.

Natural intelligence

The ability to recognize flora and fauna, as well as observing the differences and similarities that exist in nature. Ask the child to prepare clippings about plants or animals. Another thing that can be done is to involve the child in gardening activities in the home garden.
