Does Your Little One Need To Be Given Vitamin Supplement?

Not infrequently, parents give the Little One vitamin supplements because they see other parents give supplements to their children, although, the Little One does not necessarily need supplement intake. Provision of vitamin supplements is not without risk, excessive doses of vitamins and minerals can actually be toxic to our body. Take for example, the excess of vitamin C, this will make your Little One experience abdominal pain and nausea.

Food is the best source of nutrition for our bodies. With a healthy diet consisting of three large meals and two snacks, the Little One can get all the nutrients he/she needs to support his/her growing process. In addition, many foods and beverages such as cereals and milk have been fortified with important nutrients such as vitamin B, vitamin D, calcium, and iron.

In order for nutritional needs can be met, make sure that Mommy always gives a balanced diet, including:

  • Carbohydrates, such as rice, pasta, or potatoes
  • Proteins, such as eggs, chicken breast, milk
  • Fat, such as salmon, tuna, corn oil
  • Vitamins, such as various fruits, green vegetables
  • Minerals, such as milk, meat, colorful vegetables

So, what makes the Little One is categorized into the group of children who need vitamin supplements?

  • The Little One with nutrient deficiency.
  • The Little One who is sick or with certain medical conditions.
  • The Little One with dietary restrictions.

As discussed above, the provision of vitamin supplements are not without risks. A too big dosage will even harm the Little One because it can cause health porblems. In addition, the vitamins and minerals administered may contraindicate to drug therapy that may be being undertaken by the Little One due to an illness.

Rather than giving the Little One vitamin supplements, it is better if Mommy provide an adequate vitamins and minerals by providing additional nutrients. In providing these additional nutrients, Mommy can choose products that have been fortified by a variety of vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin D, calcium, and magnesium, in order to support the growth and development of the Little One optimally and the Little One can reach his/her maximum potential.
